Fertile Ground

The egg is a symbol of birth and rebirth. The ongoing Fertile Ground series encompasses drawings and paintings that explore the diversity of femininity. Each egg is a representation of femininity and strength, and no two are the same. The forms are delicate but have an edge and some chaos to them, symbolizing a uniqueness that goes beyond traditional perceptions and views of femininity, hinting at mutations.

Each exploration starts with one color to form a circle. Additional colors are applied, letting them mix, bleed, and make shapes and lines to create texture. Finally, the paper is rotated, allowing the ink to break the circle form in areas. Charcoal lines add additional texture and draw attention to the small imperfections that are really part of what makes the whole form interesting.
